Why have an annual Parkinson’s Walk?

Lots of reasons! We started ours in 2011 because we wanted to:

  • Raise awareness
  • Help fund Parkinson’s Foundation research/education on behalf of our organization (PDSGMHV)
  • Showcase our resources
    Educate others
  • Have fun and create energy!

LOCATION: Situated in the beautiful Hudson Valley, near New York State’s newest Park, the popular tourist bridge “Walkway Over the Hudson,” we had the perfect venue – a newly renovated pedestrian bridge, safe for walking, wheelchairs, strollers and bikes, with striking views of the Hudson River below.

FACILITIES: The large paved parking lot on the Poughkeepsie side provides ample space for vendors, demonstrations, information and kids booths.
Indoor restrooms are available on site. Volunteer students from nearby Marist College provide ‘pushing power” for wheelchairs on loan for those who might need a ride for all or part of the Walk. They can be reserved, but most stay at the back of the Walk line to pick up anyone who needs a break. The distance across the river and back is about three miles

Parkinson’s is now the fastest growing neurological disease in the county. We have a big job to do, but, together, we can make a difference! Come! Bring family and friends! Enjoy an afternoon out of doors and help advance the march for a cure.

African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Help us go far, together!
